Game Recap: Softball |

Perfect game punctuates Ravens Softball sweep

Ravens Softball earned a sweep behind two fantastic pitching performances on Sunday afternoon, including a perfect game.

The (RV) Ravens defeated the Park University Pirates 2-0 in Game 1, then closed out the home sweep with a 4-0 win in Game 2.

Game 1

Sunday's opener was marked by perfection from Ravens pitcher Bailey Selvage. Already the Ravens program record holder for games won, Selvage threw an absolute gem against the Pirates. Selvage recorded 14 strikeouts without allowing a single hit or walk for the perfect game.

The 14 strikeouts tie a career high for Selvage (12-6).

After Selvage struck out the side in the top of the first, Alena Velilla provided all the run support the Ravens wound up needing by launching a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the first.

The Ravens added an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth. Reagan Enright doubled and was pinch-ran for by Valeria Villagomez. Abby Reynolds followed that up with a single that scored Villagomez to give the Ravens a 2-0 lead.

That was more than enough for Selvage as she struck out the final 5 batters of the game to close out the perfect game.

Game 2

Lily SinghDhillon put on her own excellent pitching display in Sunday's second game. SinghDhillon (4-5) pitched a complete game shutout, picking up 5 strikeouts and allowing just 2 hits.

The game was scoreless until the fifth inning when Reynolds hit her first career home run to give the Ravens a 1-0 lead. Reynolds finished the game with 2 hits, 2 RBIs and a stolen base.

The Ravens added insurance runs in the sixth inning as Lauren Gaitley doubled home Megan Forsman and Mattilyn Peters, who was running for Rhiannon Martin. Gaitley then scored on a single from Reynolds to give the Ravens a 4-0 lead.

Martin joined Reynolds as Ravens with 2 hits in the game, and Amanda Waymire, Forsman, Gaitley and Megan White added doubles.

The Ravens (28-12, 15-5 Heart) will hit the road for doubleheaders at Baker University on Tuesday, April 21, and at Grand View University on Wednesday, April 22.
