(RV) Softball closes out regular season with home sweep

Ravens Softball closed out the regular season with a home sweep Saturday afternoon.

The (RV) Ravens knocked off the Peru State Bobcats, 1-0, in Game 1 and then won Game 2 with an 8-0 run rule in 6 innings.

Game 1

The Ravens won a pitcher's dual in Saturday's opener. Bailey Selvage pitched a complete game shutout, allowing just 2 hits and giving up one walk.

Selvage (15-7) also recorded 6 strikeouts in the contest, setting the new Ravens program record for career strikeouts.

The lone run of the game didn't come until the bottom of the sixth inning as the Ravens bats struggled to time the Bobcats pitcher in the first five innings.

Megan White led off the inning with a pinch-hit single, then Ryan Cooper re-entered to run for White. Cooper stole second base and scored the game-winner on a single by Rhiannon Martin. Selvage shut down the Bobcats in the top of the seventh to secure the win.

Game 2

Lacey Foster continued the strong Ravens pitching in the second game, throwing a gem for a complete game shutout. The only senior celebrating Senior Day on Saturday, Foster (6-2) allowed just 3 hits and walked one batter, consistently forcing weak contact that was gobbled up by the defense behind her.

Offensively, the Ravens had 12 hits in the game as Alena Velilla, Amanda Waymire, Megan Forsman and Reagan Enright each recorded 2 hits.

The first Ravens runs came in the fourth inning when Cooper singled and Velilla reached on a fielders choice. That was followed by a Kaleigh Small double that scored both runners.

Singles by Waymire, Forsman and Lauren Gaitley set up a 2 RBI single from Enright. Velilla doubled home Gaitley to put the Ravens up 5-0.

The final blows came in the bottom of the sixth inning. Waymire and Forsman singled again, and both scored on a double by Enright. Abby Reynolds hit a ground-rule double that brought home Enright for the final run in the 8-0 win.

The Ravens (32-16, 19-9) now move to postseason play as the Heart of America Conference Championship Tournament begins next week. Check www.ravenathletics.com for more information on the Ravens first round opponent and game time.
