SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. – No. 17 John Brown University scored the game-winning goal against Benedictine Men's Soccer on Thursday during the 73rd minute to earn a 2-1 win over the Ravens to open the season.
The Golden Eagles struck first during the 12th minute and led through the 24th minute when the Ravens hit the equalizer. Kody Argaez scored off an assist from Henry Mullen. Mullen crossed his pass towards the top of the box where Argaez was able to beat his defender and push his shot through the near post past the John Brown keeper.
The match remained tied through halftime before John Brown used 8 shots in the second half to gain the momentum, which led to the penalty on the Ravens inside the box leading to the game-winning penalty kick.
Benedictine finished the match with 8 shots, 5 coming in the second half with just one shot on goal.
Defensively, Noah Reuscher returned to goal playing all 90 minutes while recording 4 saves.
Benedictine is scheduled to return home on Thursday, Aug. 27, to host Bellevue University on Legacy Field.
