Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Ravens Volleyball sweeps Pioneers

Ravens Volleyball was strong from start to finish Friday afternoon, sweeping the Crowley's Ridge College Pioneers, 3-0.

The Ravens came out a team on fire in the opening set. They took an 8-5 lead to force an early Pioneers timeout, but it didn't slow down the Ravens.

Stefania Scomazzon had 6 kills and 2 aces, and Barbara Terra had 3 kills to lead the Ravens attack as they easily won the first set, 25-15.

The Pioneers took an early lead against the Ravens in the second set, but ultimately it was the Ravens who secured a 26-24 win.

Crowley's Ridge went on a 5-0 run to take a 14-8 lead, but Terra's kill ended that run and started a 6-1 spurt for the Ravens. The home side got within 1 point of the Pioneers lead on four different occasions before Terra leveled the score at 20-20. Terra had a run of 4-straight points to put the Ravens up 23-20.

The Pioneers bounced back and got to set point at 24-23, but the Ravens scored 3-straight to win the set and take a 2-0 lead in the match.

The Ravens completed the sweep with a 25-17 win in the third set.

The Pioneers scored early but the Ravens quickly took control of the match with a 10-4 run. A Pioneers timeout couldn't slow down the Ravens as Bridget O'Sullivan closed things out with a kill for the 8-point set win.

Scomazzon finished with 16 kills and 4 aces, Terra added 15 kills, JoJo Vander Woude had 7, and O'Sullivan and Riley Hunt each chipped in 4 kills.

Wren VanCleave had 37 assists and 7 digs, Kelly DeMeulenaere had 16 digs and Lainee Mustain added 15 digs. Ava Penuel was strong on the service line with 3 aces.

The Ravens (2-1) will remain home for their next contest when they take on Briar Cliff University at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26.
