Volleyball pushed its winning streak to nine contests on Saturday afternoon.
The Ravens swept the Mount Mercy University Mustangs, 3-0, at home in Ralph Nolan Gym.
The Ravens opened Saturday's contest with a 25-21 win in the opening set.
Barbara Terra led the way with 5 kills in the first set, and
Stefania Scomazzon added 4. The Ravens also performed at the service line, recording 3 aces.
The Ravens pushed their match lead to 2-0 with a 25-22 win in the second set.
A 4-0 run gave the Ravens an 11-6 early, but the Mustangs later answered with a 5-0 run to tie the score at 13-13. The Ravens again created separation, though, taking a 22-19 lead and holding on for the 3-point set win.
Bridget O'Sullivan was solid in the set and had 6 kills through two sets.
The Ravens closed out the sweep with a 25-22 win in the third set.
A quick start helped fuel the Ravens in the third as they jumped out to a 9-4 lead to force a Mustangs timeout. Mount Mercy hung in there, but the Ravens played well to close out the match with the 3-point win.
Scomazzon headlined the attack with 17 kills and 3 aces. Terra and
JoJo Vander Woude both had 10 kills, and O'Sullivan recorded 7 kills.
Wren VanCleave notched 41 assists and 13 digs, and
Kelly DeMeulenaere had 13 digs and an ace.
Allison Kuebelbeck was a force in the middle, assisting on 5 blocks.
The Ravens handed the Mustangs their first conference loss of the season, and the win makes the Ravens and Missouri Baptist Spartans the final two Heart of America teams still unbeaten in conference play.
The Ravens (13-2, 5-0 Heart) will look to push their winning streak to double-digits as they take on non-conference opponent Friends University at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22 at home in Atchison. The Ravens swept Friends in Wichita earlier this season.
