Volleyball sweeps Graceland in Family Weekend match

Volleyball added another tally to its winning streak on Friday night.

The Ravens swept the Graceland University Yellowjackets, 3-0, to close out an unbeaten homestand.

The Ravens picked up a 25-22 win in the opening set. Graceland held an early lead but the Ravens moved in front 10-9 and never gave the lead back up.

The Ravens notched three aces in the first set, getting one each from Kelly DeMeulenaere, Hailey Ugolini and Isabella Franco.

The second set belonged to the Ravens as the home side picked up a 25-10 win to move their match advantage to 2-0.

The Ravens grabbed a 15-4 lead thanks to a 10-0 run, taking control of the set from the beginning. The team added four more aces in the set as Ava Penuel recorded a pair.

A 25-18 win in set three finished off the sweep for the Ravens as they pushed their winning streak to 11 matches.

The Ravens took an early lead before the Yellowjackets leveled the score at 11-11. A 6-0 Ravens run put Benedictine back in control and they closed things out with a 7-point win.

The Ravens finished the match with 11 aces – DeMeulenaere had 4 to lead the team to go along with 8 digs, while Penuel, Ugolini and Wren VanCleave each had 2 aces.

Penuel had a team-high 12 digs and also added 4 assists. VanCleave led the Ravens with 18 assists and Mya Schirk added 7 assists.

Stefania Scomazzon tallied 11 kills and 2 block assists. JoJo Vander Woude chipped in 7 kills and 2 block assists, and Chiara Abelleira had 6 kills.

The Ravens (15-2, 6-0 Heart) hit the road for their next match as they'll play at 12 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26 at Peru State College.
