Benedictine Women's Soccer earned a shutout over Grand View University on Wednesday, playing their first match under the new lights on Legacy Field.
The No. 18-ranked Ravens struck early in the match and then tallied a bounce-back goal late in the first half to earn a 2-0 win over the Vikings.
It took Benedictine 99 seconds to strike first. Jenna Wilken broke free in front of the Grand View bench, she was able to beat her defender and feed Payton Vogelbacher who put in the goal off the near post and then banked it off the far post behind Grand View's Maya Fritz.
Benedictine appeared to extend their advantage during the 42nd minute, but were called for an offside. They bounced back nearly 50 seconds later when Anna Bolger cleaned up her own rebound to score during the 43rd minute.
The teams played to a scoreless draw in the second half as Benedictine outshot Grand View 8-1 to finish the match with a 13-2 advantage for the match.Â
Defensively, the Ravens held the Vikings without a shot on goal as they earned the shutout. Emma Smith secured the win in goal, playing all 90 minutes for her third win of the season.
Benedictine returns to the road on Saturday, traveling to St. Louis to take on Missouri Baptist University. The Women's match will be played second at 7 p.m.
