DES MOINES – Men's Basketball bounced back from a mid-week overtime loss on Wednesday to finish up their three-game road swing with a comeback win over Grand View University.
Trailing at the half, the Ravens rallied to hold the Vikings to 23 points in the second half en route to a 61-56 win.
The game played through three ties and three lead changes inside the final three minutes of the game before Benedictine took over the lead, 57-56 on a basket from Jaiden Bristol with 1:53 left to play. Benedictine never gave up that lead as Eric Krus and Bristol combined to score the final four points of the game to give the Ravens their comeback win.
Grand View jumped out early, pushing their advantage to as much as 9 points before Benedictine used a 12-4 run that pulled the game into its first tie with just under 13 minutes remaining in the first half. Benedictine pulled in front for their first lead of the game through the midpoint of the half before Grand View regained the lead late.
After six ties over the first 20 minutes of play, the Vikings held a 33-31 lead at the break as neither team was able to score over the final two minutes of the half.
Grand View led for 17 minutes in the second half but never pulled away from Benedictine allowing the Ravens to remain close until eventually pulling ahead for good late.
Matt Austin led the Ravens in scoring with 16 points as he connected on 3 of the Ravens 5 3-pointers. Krus finished with 14 off the bench as the Ravens finished with a 20-14 advantage in bench scoring. Saxton Thuston continued his strong start to 2022 on the boards, pulling in 10 rebounds with 8 points. Bristol finished with 9 points and 5 assists
Benedictine returns home on Thursday to take on Culver-Stockton College at 7:30 p.m. inside the Ralph Nolan Gymnasium.
