Women's Basketball made key plays down the stretch to pick up a home win Saturday afternoon.
The Ravens turned a 1-point deficit after the third quarter into a 74-68 win against the Southwestern Christian University Eagles.
The Ravens found themselves down by 1 point with under 5 minutes to play, but
Lilly Martin knocked in a 3-pointer to put the Ravens back in front, 65-63. Later in the fourth, the Eagles trimmed the Ravens lead to 1 point, but the home team finished the game on a 7-2 run, started with a 3-pointer from
Riley Bruggeman, another basket from Bruggeman and a final pair from
Addie Kane.
Bruggeman led the Ravens with 25 points, also adding 8 assists and 6 rebounds.
Hattie Gros scored 14 points – including 4-of-5 from 3-point range – and pulled down 5 rebounds.
Oen Deters has 11 points, and Kane scored 10 points to go with 6 rebounds and 4 assists.
The Ravens fell behind 16-11 after a quarter of play, finding it tough to get an offensive rhythm going.
The Eagles pushed their lead to 9 points with 5:30 to play in the second quarter, but that's when the Ravens found a spark. Kane kicked off a 16-0 Ravens run with a jumper, Deters hit four free throws in a row before another basket by Kane, and Gros knocked in a 3-pointer to give the Ravens their first lead of the game. Bruggeman's and-1 put the Ravens up 33-26 and the Ravens then went into halftime with a 35-32 lead.
The Ravens fell behind, 58-57, heading into the final period as the Eagles were able to get to the free throw line several times in the third quarter. Southwestern Christian was 11-12 from the charity stripe in the third, which helped erase the Ravens halftime lead. However, the Ravens made the key plays down the stretch to earn the home win.
The Ravens (3-2) will begin Heart of America Conference play in their next game, a 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15 home tilt against William Penn University.
