KANSAS CITY, Mo. – For the second time this season, a member of the No. 4-ranked Benedictine Football team has been recognized by the NAIA.
Isaiah Hasten, who was named the Heart Defensive Player of the Week earlier in the day Monday, joined teammate Anthony Lonergan as a weekly NAIA award winner later in the day when Hasten was named the NAIA Defensive Player of the Week.
Hasten finished Saturday's 34-32 win over then-No. 23 Baker University with 5 tackles, but it was his two interceptions that stood out. He got the scoring started for the Ravens with a 91-yard interception return for a touchdown and then his second interception sealed the win after Benedictine picked up a safety to pull ahead at the two-minute timeout of the fourth quarter.
Hasten now has 16 interceptions for his career and is currently tied for second all-time on the Ravens career interceptions list with Steve Pearson (1984-1987) and Shem Johnson (1995-1998). The career record stands at 17 and is held by Scott Miller (1987-1990).
Benedictine continues Heart South play on Saturday night, traveling to Fayette, Mo., for a 6 p.m. game against Central Methodist University.
