OVERLAND PARK – Alena Velilla helped guide (RV) Benedictine Softball to a 4-0 weekend and as a result, she earned the Heart Softball Player of the Week, presented by Musco Lighting.
The honor for Velilla was the third overall weekly recognition from the Heart for Softball this season as she joins Bailey Selvage and Rhiannon Martin.
The Ravens earned a pair of sweeps, taking two from Culver-Stockton on Saturday on Ravens field and then exploding offensive Sunday with a sweep on the road against Graceland.
Over the four games, Velilla hit .643 with three doubles, one triple, two home run, 8 RBI and 20 total bases. In Sunday's sweep, she went 6 for 6 with a 2.000 slugging percentage as the Ravens scored a total of 32 runs over 10 innings.
In 28 games this season, Velilla is now hitting .392 with a total of 40 hits. She leads the Ravens with 12 doubles and is second with 25 RBI while slugging .824 with a .400 on-base percentage. She is tied for second in the Heart in doubles while ranking second in home runs. She leads the Heart with 24 extra-base hits, a number which also ranks her third in the NAIA.
The Ravens remain on the road for their next two doubleheaders as they travel to Mount Mercy on Saturday and Clarke on Sunday.
