LEAVENWORTH – Benedictine Cross Country opened up their season on Friday night, at the Sunset Showdown hosted by the University of St. Mary.
Both teams earned a second-place finish with a mix of newcomers and returners leading the way.
For the Raven Women, Betsy Skendzel was the top individual finisher, taking third place. She was followed by Josie Jansen (seventh), Cecilia Campos (ninth), Jeana Marie Lotz (10th), Helen Ullrich (12th), Alexa Lamb (13) and Catherine Aaron (14th).
For the Raven Men, they earned three top 10 individual finishes. Sebastian Michael led the way in third place, followed Joshua Melendez (fourth) and Brendan Alfonso (sixth). Leo Cozzi (17th), Nicholas Kling (18th), John Joyce (19) and Will Niederee (26th) rounded out the top finishers.
Benedictine returns to action on Saturday, traveling to Baldwin City for the Wildcat XC Classic hosted by Baker. The Men race at 8:30 a.m., followed by the Women at 9:15 a.m.
