Doug Minnis Charity Game returns Sept. 28 at 12:37 p.m.

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Griffon Baseball will host Benedictine on Sunday, September 28 in the annual Doug Minnis Charity Game.

This was a game slated to be played in the regular season this past March, but was rained out.

This exhibition match-up honors the memory of the late Griffon baseball founder, who died in 2019. Minnis, a Kansas native, was MoWest's first ever baseball coach, leading the Griffons from 1970-1999.

His sons, Stephen and John Patrick, played baseball at Benedictine and his grandson, Jack, just finished his playing career for the Ravens in 2024.

Stephen Minnis is currently the president of Benedictine as well.

The inaugural Doug Minnis Charity Game took place in 2019 as a fall exhibition. The two teams played each other in the regular season in 2024 in Atchison, and MoWest won 7-1.

First pitch on Sunday, September 28 at the MWSU Spring Sports Complex is set for 12:37 pm. The special start time honors the late Hall of Fame coach's jersey number 37.

Proceeds from the game will benefit the Alzheimer's Association. Fans can make a donation by clicking here.
