OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – CJ Besuzzi earned his third weekly honors on Monday as he was named the Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week.
Besuzzi helped the (9) Benedictine Men's Lacrosse team to a 10-5 road upset over (6) William Penn University on Saturday to set themselves up for a chance at the program's second-ever Heart of America Athletic Conference Championship with a win over Midland University on Tuesday night.
In the win, Besuzzi finished with 11 saves while allowing just 5 goals against a Statesmen offense that averages over 18 goals per game.
In 11 games this season, Besuzzi now has played just under 517 minutes in goal with a .667 save percentage a a 4.53 goals-against average. He has recorded 78 saves on 198 shots faced. He currently leads the Heart in save percentage, goals against (39) and goals against average. He is also the NAIA leader in all three of those categories.
Benedictine wraps up the regular season at 7 p.m. on Tuesday night on Legacy Field against Midland.
